  2. Savor the Benefits of Ginger: Known for its warming properties, ginger can help break down toxins in the body and enhance your immune system. One of my favorite tea recipes where I incorporate it is my Apple and Ginger Tea. It’s easy to prepare, delicious, and packed with health benefits.
  3. Utilize the Power of Amla: A powerhouse of Vitamin C, amla helps in boosting immunity. Consume it fresh or in the form of juice or pickles.
  4. Embrace Tulsi Tea: Tulsi, or holy basil, is considered a natural immunity booster in Ayurveda. Sip on tulsi tea daily to reap its benefits.
  5. Add Garlic to Your Diet: Garlic is loaded with compounds that enhance the functioning of the immune system. Use it generously — if meditation or sattvic living is not your priority — when preparing meals.
  6. Incorporate Cumin: Cumin is rich in anti-inflammatory antioxidants and is also known to aid digestion. Sprinkle it in your soups, stews and other dishes.
  7. Stay Hydrated: Staying hydrated is key for optimal health. Drink ample water and herbal teas to flush out toxins from your body.

Herbs to Boost Immunity

Herbs have been used since ancient times for their medicinal properties, particularly immunity-boosting capabilities. Here are some herbs that can help strengthen your immune system:

  1. Echinacea: Commonly used in cold and flu medications, echinacea can help enhance the immune system and reduce symptoms of illnesses.
  2. Astragalus: This herb has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It’s often used in traditional Chinese medicine to strengthen the immune system.
  3. Ginseng: Known for its ability to help fight fatigue and stress, Ginseng also has potent immune-enhancing properties.
  4. Andrographis: Often referred to as “King of Bitters,” Andrographis helps reduce the severity and duration of cold symptoms.
  5. Elderberry: This herb is packed with antioxidants and vitamins that boost your immune system. It can help tame inflammation, lessen stress, and help protect your heart.
  6. Licorice: Licorice has antiviral and antimicrobial properties that can help protect against viral and bacterial infections. It’s seen as an immune system booster due to its antioxidants and phytochemicals.
  7. Reishi Mushroom: Known as the “Mushroom of Immortality,” reishi mushrooms can enhance immune function through their effects on white blood cells, which help fight infection and cancer.

Ayurveda also endorses several potent herbs known for their immunity-boosting properties.

Tulsi (Holy Basil): Revered as the ‘Queen of Herbs,’ Tulsi is a powerful adaptogen that helps the body combat stress—a common immunity suppressor.

Leaky gut, or increased intestinal permeability, is a condition where the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged, causing undigested food particles, toxic waste products, and bacteria to “leak” through the intestines and flood the bloodstream. This can trigger inflammation and changes to the gut flora (normal bacteria), which can potentially impact the immune system by causing an autoimmune reaction in the body.

Ayurveda offers several natural ways to heal this condition. The first step is to avoid foods that may cause damage to the intestinal lining, such as processed foods. Incorporating anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, ginger, and aloe vera into your diet can help soothe the gut lining. Foods rich in fiber, like fruits and vegetables, can also promote a healthier gut by feeding the good bacteria.

In addition, regular practice of stress management techniques, such as meditation and yoga, along with sufficient sleep, can contribute significantly to healing leaky gut. Ayurvedic herbs like Triphala and Ashwagandha can, in addition, support gut health, and probiotics can help restore a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut.

Remember, healing naturally takes time, and it’s essential to be patient with your body as it recovers and regains harmony.
