Having productive days means we are sleeping enough and well. Every day. But, with all technology available to us at all times and by repeating harmful habits we are becoming less in touch with our biological clock and rhythms. The result? people is sleeping less than ever, having bad dreams, waking in the middle of the night with anxiety, and turning to their phones with the hope of calming down their minds. The fact is that we all need a night routine to sleep better and live longer, happier lives.
LIMIT SOCIAL MEDIA BEFORE GOING TO BED
Set a time to put your phone away that is doable, realistic, and healthy. I set mine about an hour before going to bed and it helps so much with tranquilizing my mind. I don’t know if it’s the scrolling down pictures in Instagram, the exposition to images that disturb my mind and heart, or the unconscious comparison with “perfect” bodies and lifestyles that produce anxiety, but the effect of putting the phone away is a true helper to sleep better.
NO TV EITHER
Let’s be honest. We all have that one show we die to watch after work. But, unless it is about the Buddha enlightenment, chances are it has disturbing / dramatic / violent images or content. At least 1 hour before going to bed you should turn your TV off and start preparing your body for a good night’s sleep.
YIN YOGA OR STRETCHING
I am not talking about a sweaty hot yoga workout! I am referring to deep, long stretches that have a profound calming effect on your body and mind. Basically, you take a yoga pose you feel comfortable doing it and hold it for at least 3 minutes. Talk about building your patience! Then you repeat it with a couple of more asanas o yoga poses. Trust me! It feels so good and you will sleep like a baby. Don’t forget to breath properly!
VISUALIZATION
Most of us have dreams to achieve. One nice way to make them a reality is lying down in bed, with your eyes closed, and feeling as if you already accomplished those goals. Imagine the people, conversations, circumstances of living the dream.
PRAY
Pray and believe in what you pray!
That’s it! Have a good night! Also, check my best morning routines 🙂
